Naturopathic Care

Women's Hormonal Health

Your hormones touch everything. As a prescribing ND, I offer a level of hormonal support that goes beyond what many naturopathic practices provide.

The opening conversation

Your hormones are not just about your period. They influence your energy, your mood, your sleep, your skin, your weight, your digestion, your libido, and your ability to handle stress. When they are balanced, you barely notice them. When they are not, you feel it everywhere.

Women's hormonal health is the heart of my practice. Thousands of patients have come to me feeling dismissed, confused, or simply told their labs are normal when they know something is off. My job is to actually listen, run the right tests, and help you understand what is happening in your body so you can stop guessing and start feeling like yourself again.

As a Naturopathic Doctor in Ontario I also hold prescribing rights, including for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. This means I can offer a level of hormonal support that goes beyond what many naturopathic practices provide.

What I can help with

Women's hormonal health spans every stage of life. Whether you are navigating your reproductive years, preparing for pregnancy, moving through perimenopause, or looking for support on the other side of menopause, there is a place for naturopathic care in your journey.

Concerns I commonly work with include PMS and PMDD, irregular or absent cycles, painful or heavy periods, hormonal acne, low libido, estrogen dominance, PCOS, endometriosis, unexplained weight changes, low energy and fatigue tied to the menstrual cycle, mood changes that track with your hormones, perimenopause and menopause symptoms, hormone replacement therapy, fertility and pregnancy prep, prenatal and postnatal care, and postpartum hormonal recovery.

How I approach

Women's Hormonal Health

Using the Hormone Cornerstone Method I assess your hormonal health as part of the full picture of your health, not just the reproductive system in isolation. Your sex hormones interact with cortisol, thyroid hormone, insulin, and gut health in ways that are deeply interconnected. Treating one without addressing the others is why so many women feel like they have tried everything and nothing has worked.

Through a thorough assessment and targeted testing including comprehensive hormonal panels, thyroid markers, nutrient levels, and specialty testing like the DUTCH test where appropriate, I identify the specific drivers behind your symptoms and build a personalized, manageable treatment plan that fits your life.

Treatment may include dietary and lifestyle strategies, targeted supplementation, botanical medicine, acupuncture, and prescribing including bioidentical hormone replacement therapy when appropriate.

FAQs

Don't see your question here? Reach out and I'll answer it directly.

Is women's hormonal health care available virtually?

Yes. Virtual naturopathic care is available to any resident of Ontario via secure video or phone.

My doctor says my hormones are normal but I feel terrible. Can you help?

This is one of the most common things I hear. Standard reference ranges are designed to screen for disease, not to optimize your health. I assess hormonal markers against optimal ranges and look at a broader panel than a routine screen, which often reveals patterns that standard testing misses.

Can naturopathic care help with PCOS or endometriosis?

Yes. Both conditions have strong hormonal, inflammatory, and lifestyle components that respond well to naturopathic approaches. While naturopathic care is not a replacement for medical management when needed, it can be a powerful complement and in some cases a primary treatment approach depending on your situation and goals.

Do I need to stop my birth control to work with you?

No. I work with patients on hormonal contraception regularly. If coming off birth control is something you are considering we can absolutely discuss what that transition looks like and how to support your hormones through it.

What is the difference between bioidentical and synthetic hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to the hormones your body naturally produces. They are derived from plant sources and are available in a variety of forms. We discuss the full landscape of hormonal options including the latest research during your appointment so you can make an informed decision that feels right for you.

Can you prescribe hormones as a Naturopathic Doctor?

Yes. As a Naturopathic Doctor in Ontario I hold prescribing rights including for bioidentical hormone replacement therapy. This is a meaningful differentiator in naturopathic care and allows me to offer a more comprehensive level of hormonal support when appropriate.

How do I know if my hormones are out of balance?

Common signs of hormonal imbalance include irregular or painful periods, PMS or PMDD, mood swings, fatigue, brain fog, poor sleep, weight changes, hormonal acne, hair loss, low libido, and feeling generally off without a clear explanation. These symptoms are real and worth investigating, even if you have been told your labs are normal.
