Let me tell you something I've learned both as a naturopathic doctor and as a human navigating my own health: you don't have to do it alone. In fact, you shouldn't.

There's mounting research showing that community - real, meaningful connection - is one of the most powerful tools we have for health. It's not just about feeling less lonely (although that matters too). Community can actually help you live longer, recover faster, manage symptoms better, and stay accountable to the changes you want to make.

And yet, when we're struggling with fatigue, hormone imbalances, or feeling off, isolation often sneaks in. We stop showing up for social plans. We cancel on friends. We scroll instead of connecting. Before we know it, we're dealing with our health concerns in a vacuum—and that makes everything harder.

The Science: Why Community Makes You Healthier

The research on social connection and health outcomes is remarkable. Studies have shown that strong social ties can:

• Reduce your risk of early death (comparable to quitting smoking!)

• Lower inflammation and improve immune function

• Help regulate stress hormones like cortisol

• Improve outcomes for chronic conditions like heart disease and diabetes

• Support better mental health, including lower rates of anxiety and depression

When you're part of a community, whether it's a friend group, a support network, or a health-focused gathering, you're tapping into something deeply healing. You're not just getting information; you're getting support, accountability, and the reminder that you're not the only one dealing with whatever you're going through.

Why Community Has Always Mattered to Me

I've always been someone who seeks out community. Even in naturopathic school, I found my people, the ones who wanted to stay up late talking about gut health and herb interactions (yes, we exist). When I started my practice, I didn't just want to see patients one-on-one. I wanted to create spaces where people could learn, connect, and support each other.

Over the years, I've hosted group training sessions, wellness workshops, community meet-ups, and educational events. Some were small and intimate. Some were bigger. But every single one reminded me why I do this work: because health is not meant to be figured out in isolation.

I've watched patients light up when they realize someone else in the room is dealing with the same symptoms they thought were weird or just them. I've seen people leave events with new friends, new strategies, and a feeling of connection. And I've seen how powerful it is when someone finally feels understood—not just by their doctor, but by a community of people on a similar journey.

That's the magic of showing up together.

Introducing: Hormones and Hangouts – West End Toronto

Which brings me to my new event series: Hormones and Hangouts, launching in West End Toronto February 2026.

A monthly gathering where we dive into topics like hormones, fatigue, digestion, stress, sleep—all the things that quietly impact how you feel every day. No boring lectures. Just real conversation, practical takeaways, and people who actually get it.

Each event focuses on a specific topic—perimenopause, cortisol and stress, blood sugar and energy, gut health, hormone testing—and I'll break down the science in a way that makes sense, share actionable strategies you can start using right away, and give you space to ask questions, connect with others, and leave with something tangible. We will also explore local shops and small businesses!

Think of it as a mix between a workshop and a really good conversation with people who are also trying to figure out how to feel better.

Why I'm Doing This

Because I believe that when we come together—when we share what we're going through, learn from each other, and realize we're not alone—everything gets a little easier.

Health can feel overwhelming when you're trying to figure it out on your own. But when you're surrounded by people who understand, who are on a similar path, and who remind you that you're not broken—you just need the right support—suddenly, it feels more manageable.

That's what I want to create with Hormones and Hangouts: a space where you can come as you are, learn something new, meet people who get it, and leave feeling more supported, more informed, and more connected to their community.
